Tennis Betting Tips & Live Streams
There is not a sports fan in the world who doesn't know who Roger Federer is or has never heard of the Williams sisters. Both the men’s and women’s games are as popular to bet on as each other, not just in Australia, but all around the world.
There is tennis action all year round and here at AussieBets we will have our experts dissecting the ins and outs of all of the major tennis action throughout the year.
Tennis Markets
Tennis can be as simple as picking a head-to-head winner, but there are now hundreds of markets to choose from during a tennis match or throughout a major tournament. You can bet on a set line, which works like Against The Spread betting, how many sets a match will go, how many games in the match and even player props like how many faults or aces.
It has never been more exciting than having a punt on tennis.
Here a few of the popular betting markets:
Head-To-Head
Head-to-Head is the most straightforward way to bet on a tennis match. It involves placing a bet on the player you believe will win the match. Since there are no ties in tennis, there are only two possible outcomes, and each player will have their own money line odds. It's a simple and clear-cut way to punt on tennis, making it a popular choice among tennis enthusiasts and bettors. If you avoid the top-seeded players early in the tournament, there are very good odds, especially if you have done your homework.
Set Handicap Betting
Tennis Set Handicap betting is a wager on whether a player will win or cover the spread on the sets.
In most tennis matches, played over 3 sets, the set spread betting lines will be set at +/- 1.5 sets. For the favourite to cover, they must win 2-0, while the underdog must win at least 1 set. In men's Grand Slam tournaments, played over 5 sets, set betting spread lines can be either +/- 1.5 sets or +/- 2.5 sets. In the latter case, the favourite must win 3-0 to cover the spread, or the underdog must win at least 1 set.
As there can be a significant difference in skill levels between players, betting on the spreads offers a way to back a strong favourite at favourable odds or support an underdog that might not win but could keep the match closer than expected.
Game Handicap Betting
Game Handicap betting is similar to Set Betting, but instead of focusing on sets, it focusses on the number of games each player will win throughout the entire match. The game spread denotes the total games won by each player, making it another way to bet strategically on tennis matches. It is a great way to get more favourable odds on a favourite or back an underdog that may lose but put up a fight.
Aces Over/Under
An exciting player prop that you can ride all match is how many aces a player will make. This way it does not matter if your player wins or loses they just have to go OVER or UNDER the total given by the bookmaker.
Total Breaks Of Serve
In the Total Breaks of Serve market you will be given an OVER UNDER for the match. If you have a punt on the match it will be the total number of breaks by both players combined that will determine if the OVER or UNDER pays out. Alternatively, you can bet on each individual player.
Tennis Multi Bets
With 675 matches played at Grand Slam tennis tournaments like Wimbledon you can understand why multi betting has become a trend when having a punt on the tennis, especially in the early stages of the tournaments.
Betting odds can be very short on the high seeded players early in the tournament, so combining them into a multi bet is a way to boost the odds. However, tennis is known for a few early upsets, so do not get caught out thinking any matchup is a given.
Tennis Future Betting
Future betting is very common in tennis, especially for the Grand Slam tournaments, which you can bet on almost a year before the tournament with some of the bigger online bookmakers. Even if you do not want to lay down a bet so far in advance, you can always make a pick for a tournament’s champion before the first day of action.
Tennis Live Streaming
In Australia access to tennis footage is mixed between free-to-air and paid subscribers, with a few live streaming bonuses from a particular bookmaker to boot.
The Australian Open and Wimbledon is beamed out free to all Australians on Channel 9 and punters can live stream all the action via the Nine Now app.
If you want to take your tennis fandom more seriously, you can subscribe to Foxtel and Kayo, which will follow more professional tournaments and other majors — like the French Open and US Open — that may not make it to free-to-air.
For even more tennis live streaming, Bet365 broadcasts selected games throughout the year on their app to members.
Tennis History
Tennis, a sport with ancient origins, evolved from various ball games played in Europe during the 12th century. Its modern form can be traced back to England in the late 19th century when major tournaments and standardised rules were established.
The first Wimbledon Championships took place in 1877, marking the beginning of organised competitive tennis. The sport gained international popularity in the 20th century, with the establishment of major tennis events like the US Open and the French Open. Today, tennis is a global sport enjoyed by millions of players and fans, with legendary players like Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal, and Martina Navratilova leaving an indelible mark on its rich history.
