- What could go wrong?
After conceding 50 points in Round 1, the Titans defence could again be under pressure against a Dolphins attack capable of piling on points.
How this game shapes up
The Dolphins’ season opener didn’t go to plan.
They conceded five tries in the first half against South Sydney and struggled with a 65 percent completion rate that left them with limited possession.
However, there were still positives.
Their attack looked dangerous whenever they held the ball and a cleaner performance this week should generate far more scoring chances.
Gold Coast’s Round 1 performance was even more concerning.
The Titans were blown away by Cronulla, trailing 34-0 at halftime before eventually falling 50-10.
The defensive numbers told the story.
Thirty-seven missed tackles and multiple line breaks conceded exposed the structural problems the Titans still need to fix.
Those issues make this a difficult matchup against a Dolphins side that has historically scored well against them.
Redcliffe have won five of their six meetings with the Titans and scored 36 points in both matchups last season.
Best Bets
Dolphins -4.5 First Half
The Dolphins should be able to exploit the Titans’ defensive weaknesses early and establish a lead before halftime.
Herbie Farnworth Anytime Tryscorer
Farnworth remains one of the NRL’s most dangerous centres and regularly finds opportunities when the Dolphins attack gains momentum.
What could go wrong?
The Dolphins’ biggest issue in Round 1 was ball control.
If their completion rate again drops well below average, they may struggle to generate enough possession to put the Titans under sustained pressure.
And Gold Coast still possess attacking talent capable of producing points if their forwards gain momentum.
But if the Dolphins clean up their execution, the Titans defence could face another difficult night.
Verdict
The Dolphins start fast at Suncorp Stadium, building an early lead before their attack produces another big score.
