Richmond Tigers vs Adelaide Crows Tips and Prediction

Richmond finally got a win on the board, but a much tougher test awaits as Adelaide look to build momentum in Round 9.

Best Bet: Adelaide -35.5

How this game shapes up

Richmond broke their losing streak last week, but context matters.

That win came against West Coast, and while it showed effort and resilience, this matchup is a significant step up. Adelaide bring a far more complete profile, particularly around the contest and in transition.

The Crows are not blowing teams away this season, but they are consistently competitive. Their losses have been tight, and their wins have come through structure, efficiency and composure. That is a dangerous mix against a young Richmond side still trying to find consistency.

The midfield battle shapes as the key difference.

With Jordan Dawson returning, Adelaide gain another layer of control and ball use. Alongside Rory Laird, Sam Berry and Wayne Milera, they have the ability to win the ball and use it cleanly. Richmond have shown they can compete in patches, but sustaining that level across four quarters remains a challenge.

Forward of the ball, Adelaide have multiple threats. Josh Rachele, Izak Rankine and Ben Keays all provide scoring options and ground-level pressure. Against a Richmond defence that has been under constant pressure this season, that spread becomes difficult to manage.

Richmond’s pathway to staying in the game is through effort and pressure. They showed last week that they can defend well for periods and take their chances when they come. The issue is volume. They simply do not generate enough consistent scoring opportunities, averaging just 65 points per game this season.

Against a structured Adelaide side, that limitation is likely to be exposed again.

Best Bets

Adelaide -35.5

The gap in class, experience and consistency points towards a comfortable Adelaide win.

Under 187.5 Total Points

Both teams lean towards lower scoring profiles. Adelaide control games through defence, while Richmond struggle to generate high totals.

Jordan Dawson 25+ Disposals

Returning to the side, Dawson should play a central role and find plenty of the ball.

Josh Rachele 2+ Goals

Rachele continues to be a consistent scoring threat, especially against weaker defensive units.

What could go wrong?

Richmond showed last week that they can compete when they bring high pressure and effort. If they can slow the game down and limit Adelaide’s ball movement, they can keep the margin respectable.
