Brisbane Lions vs Carlton Blues Tips and Prediction

Brisbane return to the Gabba in ominous form and look set to pile more pressure on a Carlton side that continues to struggle to put together a four-quarter performance.

Best Bet: Brisbane 40+

How this game shapes up

There is a clear gap between these two teams right now, and it shows in both form and underlying numbers.

Brisbane have found their rhythm after an inconsistent start to the season. Their midfield is humming, their forward line is balanced, and when they get momentum, they score quickly and heavily. Lachie Neale, Will Ashcroft and Hugh McCluggage give them control at stoppage, but just as importantly, they use the ball cleanly and set up repeat entries.

That is a major problem for Carlton.

The Blues continue to show patches where they look competitive, but they cannot sustain it. Their biggest issue is not effort, it is their inability to handle momentum. Once opposition teams get on top, Carlton struggle to stop the flow and the scoreboard damage follows.

That is exactly the type of scenario Brisbane thrive in.

The Lions do not rely on a single forward target. Zac Bailey, Kai Lohmann, Logan Morris and Charlie Cameron all contribute, which makes them difficult to defend. If the ball lives in Brisbane’s forward half for extended periods, multiple players will hit the scoreboard.

Carlton’s midfield, led by Patrick Cripps and Sam Walsh, can compete early. The problem is maintaining that level for four quarters. If they lose control for even a short stretch, Brisbane have the ability to turn a close game into a blowout.

Best Bets

Brisbane 40+

Brisbane’s scoring power and Carlton’s inability to stop momentum swings point strongly towards a big margin.

Charlie Cameron 3+ Goals

Cameron has an excellent record against Carlton and will benefit from repeat forward entries and ground-level opportunities.

Darcy Wilmot 25+ Disposals

Wilmot continues to play a key role off half-back and should see plenty of the ball with Brisbane controlling territory.

What could go wrong?

Carlton have been competitive in stretches this season. If they can control stoppages for longer periods and convert their chances, they can keep the game tight early. The issue is sustaining that pressure, which they have not shown consistently.
