There is then a considerable gap to Errol Gulden and Bailey Smith at $10.00, with Will Ashcroft ($13.00) and Marcus Bontempelli ($15.00) rounding out the top five in the opening market.

Nick Daicos Opens As The 2027 Brownlow Favourite
It is hardly surprising to see Nick Daicos at $4.00 after what happened in 2026.
Daicos stormed to the Brownlow with 47 votes, finishing an enormous 11 votes clear of runner-up Bailey Smith. He has now established both the statistical profile and proven ability to attract umpire votes required to dominate this market.
At $4.00, however, there is not much mystery left in the price. Punters backing Daicos this early are betting that he can reproduce an extraordinary 2026 season rather than uncovering an overlooked contender.
Bailey Smith Looms As The Obvious Challenger
Bailey Smith ($10.00) finished second in the 2026 count with 36 votes and immediately stands out among the challengers.
His second season at Geelong showed that a change of club was certainly no barrier to polling. Smith's ability to win plenty of the football while remaining highly visible around the contest gives him an obvious Brownlow profile.
The $10.00 opening quote is substantially longer than Daicos despite Smith finishing second in the previous count, which makes their progress through the opening months of 2027 particularly interesting.
Can Errol Gulden Make The Jump?
One of the more fascinating opening prices belongs to Errol Gulden at $10.00.
Gulden polled 17 votes in 2026, considerably fewer than most of the other players around the top of the new market. The price therefore appears to be looking forward rather than simply reacting to last year's count.
His ball use and ability to influence games make him an obvious candidate to improve, but jumping from 17 votes into Brownlow-winning territory would still require a significant step forward.
Will Ashcroft And Marcus Bontempelli Among The Contenders
Will Ashcroft ($13.00) is another player whose opening price suggests the market expects further improvement.
He collected 27 votes in 2026 and already looks capable of becoming one of the competition's dominant midfielders. The challenge could be Brisbane's depth, with key players like Zac Bailey, Logan Morris and Kai Lohmann all capable of polling points.
Then there is Marcus Bontempelli ($15.00), who requires very little introduction. The Bulldogs captain finished third in 2026 with 34 votes and remains one of the most reliable vote-getters in football.
As long as Bontempelli remains healthy and playing predominantly through the midfield, he will be difficult to dismiss from any Brownlow conversation.
Early Brownlow Outsiders To Watch
This is where the opening market becomes more interesting.
Izak Rankine ($21.00) polled 25 votes in 2026 and has the type of explosive game that attracts attention, while Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera ($21.00) collected 21 votes and continues to develop into one of St Kilda's most influential players.
