Rugby League is a full contact team sport played with a spheroid-shaped ball by two teams. Rugby League is several other modern sports such as Australian Rules and American Football originating from Rugby.

The league code is most prominent in Australia, New Zealand, England, and France where the sport is played professionally. It is also played at amateur and semi-proffessional levels in a host of other countries. The two main proffessional leagues are the National Rugby League in Australasia and the Super League in the Northern hemisphere mainly in the UK.

The Australasia domestic competition is the NRL which runs from Autumn until Spring consisting of 16 teams which concludes with an 8-team play-off system until only 2 teams remain to contest in a Grand Final match to determine the years NRL Champions. There is also a State of Origin 3-game series during the season which pits the Maroons, representing the state of Queensland, and the Blues, representing the state of New South Wales. Along with the NRL Grand Final it is one of Australia's premier sports events and attracts sell-out crowds and tv audiences and over the years has been evenly contested.

Along with the NRL there is a whole host of International and European Rugby competitions providing betting opportunties all year round which take place between February and December such as the World Cup, Challenge Cup and Tri-Nations. Europe, as mentioned above, also has their own league season competition the Super League which starts a month earlier than the NRL and finishes in October and has the same type of format culminating in a play-off series and a Grand Final match at Old Trafford, Manchester United's Football Stadium to determine the seasons Champions. At the begining of the next season we also see a match-up between the Champions of the two hemispheres compete in a World Club Challenge.
